Watch Dogs

The Watch dogs is new upcoming game. The game is set within a fictionalized, hyper-connected version of CHI TOWN, which is managed through a centralised system called CTOS, developed by the fictional Blume Corporation. The core game mechanic in Watch Dogs is hacking, the player in the game will have smart phone with access to other people computers, government computers, traffic lights, security camera etc, he will have reach to other people’s personal life.

I think that it is a better functioning more powerful example that is coded by professional data miners, like the  data being interconnected, and the world’s increasing use of technology questioning who exactly runs the computers they depend on. But it is set in virtual world and not really possible.

After I logged in to the watch dog via Facebook , it gave me lots of information about me . But all of that information is taken from the Facebook itself . So this means that it cannot pull any more information about me other than what is already on the Facebook , which is of course not any kind data which is vulnerable. To intrude properly in to some one’s private information, I think they have to come up with some thing more powerful than this. The way state agencies are making progress now a days it might be possible, but for now, not that I know of.

The term “sousveillance” means the recording of an activity by a participant in the activity  typically by way of small wearable or portable personal technologies. It has also been described as the inverse surveillance. In other words sousveillance is the watchful vigilance from underneath. The large scale availability of portable recording cameras  of every kind and range has made the sousveillance very easy for almost everyone. Sousveillance has so many benefits, like someone can record an event and could be a strong witness of an incident by recording and saving the file in their device, the good example of the recent sousveillance is seen in African country of Ghana where  its citizens has been credited with addressing many problems such as election fraud or electoral misdeeds, where mobile phones were used for checking malpractices and intimidation during elections. (WIKIPEDIA)

Sousveillance also has other implications like it can also be easily misused. Lets say if someone upload their picture on the Facebook and that particular person has hundreds of friends, and the picture that is posted by that person is liked by at least half of his friends then this means that the photo can be seen as a liked item by all the friends, further on his friends have, who are totally strangers to each other. So I think if someone posts his/her picture than they are making it a lot easier for some random stranger to access it and may be misuse it .

Wearable technology such as Google glass which is a wearable computer with an optical head mounted display (OHMD),  will definitely increase the trend of sousveillance and will take it to the next level around the world. With the Google glass the people who do not feel comfortable with taking their phones or cameras out will only be wearing those glasses while doing  sousveillance. It is criticized as well because many think and are afraid that the Google glass will cause the intrusion of privacy, and the etiquette and ethics of using the device in public and recording people without their permission. There is controversy that Google Glass would violate privacy rights due to security problems. Globalization is the process of integration across world arising from the interchange of views, products, ideas and other aspects of culture. Advances in transportation and telecommunications infrastructure, including the rise of the internet, are major factors in globalization, further interdependence of economic and cultural activities. People around the globe are more connected to each other then ever before. Information and money flow more quickly than ever. Goods and services produced in one part of the world are increasingly available in all parts of the world. Globalization is an economic tidal wave that is sweeping over the world. It can’t be stopped, and there will be winners and losers. (WIKIPEDIA)

There are so many advantages of Globalization , like now there is a worldwide market for companies and consumers to access products from different countries. There is a world power that is being created gradually, instead of compartmentalized power sectors. Politics are merging and decisions that are being made are actually beneficial for people all over the world. There is more influx of information between two countries. But most of all it promotes global economic growth, creates jobs, makes companies more competitive, and lowers prices for consumers. It also provides poor countries, through infusions of foreign capital and technology, with the chance to develop economically and by spreading prosperity creates the conditions in which democracy and respect for human rights may flourish.  (ARTICLE FROM MANUFACTURING.NET)

Along with the benefits there are also draw backs of the globalization, like it has made the rich richer while making the non rich poorer. It is wonderful for managers and investors, but not very beneficiary to poor. Multinational corporations which were previously restricted to commercial activities are increasingly influencing political decisions. Many think there is a threat of corporations ruling the world because they are gaining power due to globalization. Many opponents of globalization say that globalization makes it easier for rich companies to act with less accountability.  If we see the affects of globalization on U.S.A, it clearly shows that the America is on top of list of the countries who had countless benefits science the world has squeeze down to a global village. But as America has also been outsourcing for last few decades, it has many negative affects on the American economy specially the American Middle class. Since 1980, American manufacturing has lost some 6 million jobs and has shrunk from a high of 29 percent of the GDP in 1950 to 11 percent of the GDP today. This has happened because manufacturing work is outsourced to developing nations like China where wages and the cost of manufacturing goods are lower. Federal government should come up with a law, which should restrict  too much of the job drainage in the form of outsourcing by private firms to the third world developing countries. Every day digital technology is generating new possibilities to work and play, to transact and interact. As more digital devices get connected they can help us access a range of services including communications and payments. The benefits of these digital services are many, as these transactions and other digital communications are very fast and efficient . But there are also many security concerns regarding the digital technology. Potentially, there are risks for individual identities as well as personal and corporate information. (GEMALTO)

There were so many incidents in the recent past where the servers of the different organizations specially the retail firms were breached by cyber criminals and the personal information and data worth millions was stolen and misused by the criminals. In the case of such an incident its the responsibility of the organization to inform the public and consumers and compensate them as well. They should do it  because if public trust them and pay them to handle their data and information then it is public’s right to be informed of any incident. Just like the bank, if the banks gets robbed than they do inform the customers and try to compensate them as well.  That is why as a customers we have right to know if our private information has been accessed.

After the Heart Bleed and  a software flaw that has left up to two-thirds of the world’s websites vulnerable to attack by hackers, of course I am very less likely to shop on line. Who would let other people have their secret and private information no one! On top of that it is hard now to trust the big organizations that they will inform the public about the compromised information. I would change my opinion only in one case that the  companies get a real good digital security system and suppose if still they get breached then they should compensate the affected people. When a user download something for free which is not uploaded for free download by the owner, then the user is involved in the act of illegal downloading. Lets assume that a rap artist who was producing records before the whole World Wide Web boom was making way more money by selling millions of records as compared to the present times when millions of consumers are downloading the records of the same artist illegally from torrents, Mp3skul, or simply just ripping them off the  you tube. So I think illegal downloading which is also known as file sharing is not a Victimless crime, and the biggest victims are the music artists, as they have lost billions of dollars in total. But the number of people downloading free music is way more than the number of customers that were buying records before the this file sharing trend, so  lets say if we some how become able to put a stop on the illegal downloading , still I do not think so that all these users will go and buy the same amount of music they are downloading right now and the artist still  will be making almost the same amount of cash, as right now they are making more on live music shows, music videos, or other T.V. shows. So the question is that where is all that money going which consumers specially the young ones are saving from the music and movies? the reports have shown that sales of game consoles and game discs have increased in billions as compared to the past, the same thing with the DVD sales but DVD rentals have decreased a lot. (THEGUARDIAN.COM’S BLOG ABOUT DOWNLOAD PIRACY).

The difference between illegal downloading and stealing is debatable, some people say that they both are  same thing , but some say that illegal downloading is not stealing.  Lets see some of the views regarding the case where people have thoughts of illegal downloading  not a theft,  according to Stuart P. Green a Rutgers Law School  professor and expert on theft law copyright, infringement isn’t really “stealing” at all. Mr. Green says that in order to actually “steal” something, you must deprive the owner of whatever that thing is. If you take a person’s bicycle, then you have it, and person does not. So if you download a song off The Pirate Bay, you’ve simply made a copy now there are two bicycles. (Or thousands or millions.) But on the other hand people argue that a song is some one’s intellectual property so you cannot make a copy of it without the owner’s permission.  According to the copy rights law it is illegal to upload some one’s property without his/her permission, so is to download it.
